Brown Dwarf Inclinations
Brown Dwarf Inclinations
What are the alignment trends for Brown Dwarfs? By measuring stellar rotations using high cadence photometry, we were able to determine inclinations for 9 Brown Dwarf systems, and we have found that around single stars, Brown Dwarfs tend to be aligned.
We looked into the misalignment of Super-Jupiter XO-3b. XO-3b stands out as the only misaligned object around a single star in its mass range, including massive planets and low mass Brown Dwarfs. By fitting radial velocity measurements, the Rossiter-McLaughlin effect, and Doppler Tomography, we were able to determine XO-3b's spin orbit angle to be 40.2 degrees, and misaligned by 20 sigma.Â
